The SEG had a very successful day at the National 4/6 stage road relay championships. The men’s A team finished 13th, the highest finish by HHS men, and the women’s A team were 15th. The ability to field 2 men’s teams and 3 women’s teams shows the strength in depth of the SEG.
Cameron Bell got the A team off to a good start on a fast opening leg, coming in 25th in 17.44. Jamie Hall ran the fastest leg of the day for HHS, moving up to 14th in 17.36. Leo Cossham was 18th in 18.27 and James McCrea gained one place with time of 17.57. Connor Milnes moved the team into 12th running 17.52. Euan Brown brought the team home in 13th with a time of 18.29, less than 15 seconds off a top 10 place.
Matt Craig led off the B team but picked up an injury early on the leg. He battled hard to finish in 79th in 21.17. Kieron Sexton finished 75th in 19.24. Chris Law, making his debut for HHS, ran the fastest leg for the B team and moved into 67th with 18.26. Dylan Stevens ran well to gain 3 places with a time of 20.40. David Lewis looked strong, gaining 8 places and finishing 59th in 19.05. Ben Kelly moved into 53rd on the last leg, running 19.33.
Katie Palfreeman ran the fastest leg for the women’s A team, running 15.01 for 25th. Nicky Squares moved the team into 21st with 15.41. Charlotte Slack continued the momentum, finishing 18th in 16.00. Evie Brailsford ran a strong final leg, bringing the team home in 15th in 15.37.
Saskia Huxham got the B team off to a good start, finishing 40th in 16.00. Elaine Livera ran well to move into 31st with 15.48. Hannah Metherall gained valuable experience with the seniors, running 16.57 for 30th. Shen Wigfield-Turner ran well on the final leg to finish 25th in 15.47.
Laura Trask opened for the C team, running 17.06 for 57th. Lucy Farquhar worked hard on the 2nd leg to finish 60th in 18.32. Ellie Crownshaw, making a welcome return to racing, moved up to 54th with 17.48.
