Training Overview
Every week we have a number of regular sessions available. The general weekly schedule is shown below but we provide our specific plans each week in our WhatsApp group chat.
There is no charge to attend any of our sessions (except for track access on Tuesdays – this is approximately £5 or is covered by some gym memberships, please check the track website for more details). You are welcome to come along and try any of our sessions before becoming a member of the club (see the Membership page for more details), we’d just appreciate you letting us know that you’re planning to join us beforehand. If you’re interested in coming along to a session, send an email to info@hallamshireendurance.co.uk and one of the coaches will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
MONDAY
Social group run from Broomhill at 19:00. A sign up is posted in the WhatsApp group chat at the start of each week.
TUESDAY
Track session at Woodbourn Road Stadium (S9 3HL) at 18:00.
We meet at the far side of the track on the 200 m line. We recommend arriving earlier to be warmed up and ready to go for 18:00. These sessions usually include around 5 – 8 km worth of quality and include a mixture of speed and endurance work. The perfect way to work hard, improve your speed, and get that new PB.
Example sessions include mile repeats and pyramids (1000, 800, 600, 400, 200 m).
Currently there are restrictions on track access. We can provide more information on attendance and access when you contact us via the email address above.
WEDNESDAY
Strength and conditioning classes at the Stall’s Gym (S8 0XQ) at 19:15. This is a class focussed on S&C for runners. Numbers are limited due to gym size so please speak to one of the coaches before attending.
THURSDAY
Road session either at Hillsborough Park (meeting at Courtside (S6 2DF)) or at Lodge Moor (summer only; meeting at the car park next to Redmires playing fields (S10 4LJ)).
These sessions vary between road tempo sessions, group social runs, and hill sessions. These sessions are usually 10 – 14 km of running in total with 4 – 6 km of quality. In these sessions we embrace the hilly nature of Sheffield’s roads to build strength, endurance, and enjoy running with friends. Unlike the track sessions that are classically regimented with efforts based on distance, these sessions tend to be more casual and base efforts on time.
Example sessions include fartleks, hill sprints, or good old fashioned road tempos.
SATURDAY
Throughout the autumn and winter we start to incorporate cross-country style sessions. These sessions are more sporadic and we fit them in around the cross-country calendar. Keep an eye on our group chat for when these sessions will be.
SUNDAY
Group social long run meeting at the Rivelin paddling pools (S6 5GL).
Our usual route heads out of the Rivelin Valley, up through Loxley to Damflask reservoir. Here, we go around the reservoir to Low Bradfield and return back through Loxley to where we began in the Rivelin Valley. This route is about 16 km but is sometimes extended by the group to add another loop around the reservoir for some extra distance.
The group is flexible with pacing but is usually run at around 04:30 – 05:00 min / km.
